This is an incidental shot.
I was at a spot where I intended to shoot some river scenes but the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police for you non-Canadians) were swarming. Looking for a guy who had (allegedly stolen a car and was in the process of stripping it. They had his partner in custody.
I didn't feel like trudging through the crime scene so I shot from above. Some shots of the vehicle and some others.
This is one of the others.
Power to the people.
Continued from yesterday, this is a shot of an installation in a local park. It is covered with graffiti. This is an example of many people leaving their marks, much in the way a dog might, to show that they have been here.
I have had this discussion with friends. When does defacing public property become art? If you tag a brick wall belonging to someone else is it art? If someone defaces your graffiti do you become upset?
If you deface a tree in a park with two sets of initials and a heart is it art? What is every tree had been engraved? Or corporate logos appeared?
How about if you carve an intricate face into the tree? Okay, one face might be cute but what if ninety-seven people decided that it is a great idea and followed suit? Is the one face one too many or is there another larger number?
I am kind of a window addict. I love the mystery that they contain.
You never know what is really going on inside.
They kind of warp reality.
I don't know if you have notice but I tend to have very few live human beings in my blog. Few live and, so far, none dead.
I was thinking that a cool idea would be to pick a date, say May 1st, and have as many phot-bloggers as possible post a self-portrait. A self-portrait as interpreted by the artist.
Just a thought. I might do it.
I am suffering from the exhilarating desire to explore.
There was a carnival in town. I went for a walk around before they opened and shot some pictures.
Doesn't this guy look kind of sad without kids riding. Maybe there is a slight look of anticipation but mostly sadness.
By the way, Sunday April 29th is World Wide Pinhole Day ( http://www.pinholeday.org./ ). I plan to get out and try some shots. I haven't done any serious pinhole camera photography for many years.
House prices have been on the rise and I am a renter. There will be no house purchase for me.
I did, however, espy this quaint fixer-upper. No glas in the windows. No doors. But is does have an aroma.
What is your advice. Should I buy it?
It is Earth Day.
I wondered what shot I would use to celebrate our planet.
This is the Earth working to reclaim a piece of its body. It is a car tire that has lain on the ground for some time. The grass grew around it then the snow flattened the snow. The receding snow reveals the covered tire.
The Earth might be successful in its attempt to reclaim it. Or maybe the Earth will fail. Let's check back in a million years.
One more farm equipment shot. I promise to move on to something else tomorrow.
This is a chain on a really old Massey Harris Combine Harvester. The chain is so rusted that it is stiff. Immobile.
It looks the way I feel some mornings.
I went for a cruise yesterday and saw this Fordson Tractor sitting in a field.
When I was a bit younger than I am now, I worked some summers on ranches and I got to drive a Fordson.
The one I drove was a little more modern; it had rubber tires.
I guess I was closed today. Not really but I was away for a little cruise south. Shot some pictures and had some lunch.
Isn't that an interesting peek into my life?
Some people who are younger than I won't remember this but there was a time when if you wished to show a photograph to someone in another part of the world you had to spend a fortune in postage and hope the photograph arrived within a few weeks and in reasonably good condition.
I will post this shot in a few seconds and people in Asia or Africa or Europe or any of the other beautiful parts of the world can see it moments later.
Amazing.
There is incredible strength in the hooves of horses. They also make very interesting subjects.
I have not put a flower picture in for a while so . . . here goes.
Spring is threatening to break out here Today's rain (mixed with a little snow) was almost welcome. We need rain to get things blooming.
I am already suffering from blooming allergies so I might as well get to look at flowers while I suffer.
There is something about bars on windows that is disturbing to me. It is a comment on the state of our society.
Why do we need to protect ourselves from the incursions of of our fellow human beings? It is indeed disturbing but it is also a precaution that must be taken in some areas of our city.
I missed it by that much. A blog entry for April 14th, I mean. I just turned over to the 15th so a couple of minutes late or a day late. Just doesn't matter that much.
This is was shot on the 13th so I hope it isn't an unlucky shot. A stand of trees behind where I live. A nice place to walk.
It is a grey day. The sky drips occasionally and I cannot seem to gather enough energy to drag my butt around the block.
Have to do it somehow, though, because I am out of apples.
Another wall shot.
When does art become graffiti? I guess it happens when the wall does not belong to you. If Michelangelo painted a brick wall it might be called graffiti.
Okay, I know that I am not exactly a wild one but I do enjoy a nice walk on a warm spring day. And since I pack my camera with me I can get shots of things like this wall.
Spring has finally made an impact (bringing those delightful allergy symptoms).
This is the Simon Fraser Bridge spanning the mighty Fraser River.
I don't know what the ducks are.
Once again I return to the beauty of chipped old paint but with the added fascination of some odd graffiti.
It is a garage beside a boarded up house. I wanted to enter the house but, well, that would be illegal and you know me.
I am a coward.
It's Easter so I thought a nice Church picture would be in order.
This one is in Fort Saint James, B.C.
I like that it it fits into the landscape.
Is there anything better than natural shapes and textures? I don't think so. Nature is the best artist and it is the photographers job to share that art.
Now I was going to do a little Good Friday post and even shot a Good Friday picture but decided that it might be offensive to Christians so instead I decided to offend Employees.
Some Employees might be Christians but that is their tough luck.
Have you ever wondered about these church windows? I believe they are Lancet arches. Why do Gothic arch designs continue to be so popular in today's churches?
Just wondering.
There have been higher than normal snow packs in many parts of the northern half of British Columbia. Warm weather is on the way.
That means floods.
The Nechako is probably going to flood. It will join the Fraser which will probably also be flooding. The result . . . even greater water flow.
Global Climate Change. Do the words sound familiar?
I have a friend who is doing something about it. She is trying to change the way she performs her life. What she is doing will make no difference at all. Right?
Well, the truth is that it will. Maybe a trillionth of a percent of what needs to happen but it is something. If all people did that trillionth and industry and governments did a pro rated amount . . . problem solved.
Sounds easy.
This photo from a couple of years ago on a warm summer afternoon makes me long for those warm walks instead to the present bitter ones.
It would be nice to skip the floating beer bottles though.
I have been cleaning my little office here and I keep finding crap that I saved for no apparent reason. I found little screws that I saved 6 or seven years ago because I just might need them. I have now tossed them away. Everyone knows what will happen in the next couple of days.
I will be looking for a screw. I will need a good screw.
The point is that it lead me to look through old photos.
This is one from a few years ago.
Now back to cleaning. Maybe I should toss the pencil stubs. I rarely use pencils and I have several new ones so why keep the two inch stubs?
Like my aging hairline, springs ice slowly recedes. Unlike my hairline, the receding ice reveals treasures hidden for many months.
I see things laying about and wonder how they came to be there. The shell is very tiny and may have been on a child's bracelet or necklace.
Was it a sad day when the shell was missed?
I hope not. I hope that the child thought it was time for the shell to move on to someone else.
